Cimatics 8AVFestival takes place from 13th - 15th November 2008 at
various locations in the centre of Brussels.

The 6th festival edition will again bring an extensive overview of
what's currently taking place at the crossroads of media, art, music
and technology. Extra attention will be paid to the central theme
'Data Visualization'.

:: Territoire d'intervention > la Cité internationale universitaire de Paris ::
Située sur un parc de 34 hectares au sud de la capitale, la Cité internationale universitaire de Paris représente la plus forte concentration de résidences universitaires de la ville et de la région Ile-de-France : 5 500 lits, répartis dans 37 maisons.
Les résidents - étudiants, chercheurs, artistes, etc.-, issus de plus de 130 nationalités, ont contribué à faire de la Cité un lieu de rencontres et d’échanges culturels dès sa création. L’importante activité artistique de la Cité renforce d’autant plus cette mixité interculturelle.
Identifiée comme un laboratoire d’innovation architecturale dès sa première phase de construction vers 1925, puis lors de la deuxième vague dans les années 60, la Cité doit aujourd’hui relever d’importants enjeux d’aménagement urbain.
De nombreux axes de communication sont présents sur le site de la Cité, produisant des coupures et nuisances variées. Le plus important d’entre eux est le boulevard périphérique sud, constitué de 5 voies, mais on trouve également la ligne de RER, l’avenue David-Weill, la ligne enterrée de l’aqueduc, etc.
L’harmonisation du site et la régulation des pollutions générées par ces axes sont devenues une priorité pour la Cité.

:: Thématique ::
Autour du thème central de l'intégration urbaine du périphérique, les artistes sont invités à imaginer de nouvelles connexions entre la Cité internationale et Gentilly. Actuellement, la traversée entre les deux rives se limite à deux points de passage piétonnier, reliés par une passerelle.

VIDEOFORMES organise au niveau national un concours de création vidéo ouvert à tous les jeunes, aux établissements scolaires comme aux associations.

La seule contrainte est de se tenir à une minute de réalisation. Tous les genres, tous les sujets, toutes les techniques de production d’images en mouvement sont acceptés : par exemple, animation avec des objets, graphisme, diaporamas.

Il existe 4 catégories par niveau scolaire pour la diffusion et l’établissement du palmarès : enseignement premier degré, collège, lycée, enseignement supérieur.

VIDA 11.0 rewards works of art developed with artificial life
technologies and related disciplines: robotics, artificial
intelligence, etc. We are looking for works of art with emerging
behaviours, which evolve over time, react with their environment
and seem to have a life of their own. VIDA 11.0 is searching for
projects that relate technology with biology and that research
the synthetic characteristics of modern life.

In previous editions, prizes have been awarded to artistic
projects created with robots, avatars, recursive chaotic
algorithms, knowbots, cellular automata, computer viruses,
virtual ecologies that evolve with user interaction, interactive
architectures, augmented reality pieces and works that explore
the social aspects of A-life.

A total of €40,000 will be awarded to the three projects selected
by the jury: First prize: €18,000(*), Second prize: €14,000(*),
Third prize: €8,000(*). The winning pieces may be exhibited at
Fundación Telefónica´s Virtual Museum and in the exhibitions
related to art and new technologies it organises or takes part
in.

Works of art submitted must not be more than two years old. This
enables the Competition to keep updated and aware of the last
technological trends in the field of artificial life.

VIDA 11.0 - ARTISTIC PRODUCTION INCENTIVES FOR LATIN AMERICA,
SPAIN AND PORTUGAL

The second category of the VIDA 11.0 International Competition
aims to help fund artistic A-life projects (and related
disciplines) that have not yet been created. The competition is
open to participants from Latin America, Spain and Portugal.

With prize money totalling €40,000 (*)., this category will
reward from one to three projects that deal with a relevant
A-life concept and demonstrate the artist's capacity to produce
the piece. The jury will also value outstanding quality of
previous work.

ENTRY

To enter both categories (“Finished Projects” and “Artistic
Production Incentives”), carefully read TERMS AND CONDITIONS and
complete the ENTRY FORM.

ALL material should be submitted on electronic media (CD or DVD)
before the 6th of October 2008, to any Fundación Telefónica
office in Spain (Madrid) or Latin America (Mexico D.F., Sao
Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and Lima). The addresses
are included in the documentation. Entry forms can also be sent
via email to vida@telefonica.es, provided that the applicant

The Open Wall, a 80 x 30 pixels resolution 201 inch LED screen.

ITovation, a project by the Faculty for Information Technology,
Mathematics and Electrical Engineering, NTNU, and Trondheim Electronic
Arts Centre, TEKS, invites you to an open art competition!

The Open Wall is a wall-mounted LED installation consisting of 96
circuit boards containing 25 orange LED lights each, 2400 in total, with
5 cm distance in all directions to the next light. The wall is 480 cm
long and 180 cm high. One goal of the Open Wall project is to inspire
reflection about Information and Communication Technology with focus on
openness, copyrights, and authorship. The source code governing the Open
Wall is available as an open source project on sourceforge.


Concept:

The artist perspective for the contest is to exploit the artistic
potential of possible technologies that can be implemented in the The
Open Wall. Boundaries between digital art expressions and computer
gaming are vanishing. We will in particular ask the contesters to
investigate in artistic concepts that applies to the wall being an
interactive and ?living? object.

We aim at raising awareness and curiosity about multidisciplinary issues
at the intersection between art and technology. Artistic expressions for
the contest may look into ways of establishing interactive dialogs
between an audience at sight or/and remote located, and the LED wall.

Project contributions can be expressed as a combination of sensor and
actuator technologies that by example reads data from sources like
sound, movement, climate, GPS, social mapping etc., as well as other
methods for fetching external data information. Actuators in addition to
the LEDs, if you find that necessary for your project, can be anything
from sound output to robotic technologies. Your imagination is the limit!

The suggested artistic concept and content will be the jury?s main
factor to consider. This means that though the technical aspects are
vital for realizing this project, the contest will focus on the artistic
concepts and ideas. We are therefore accepting contributions where the
techniques necessary for realizing your project aren?t fully developed
or in detail described. The jury expects nevertheless all technologies
suggested by the contesters to be technical realizable.

The Open Wall project provides an interface for exploring possibilities
for further development of artistic expressions used for permanent
public installations. This contest is part of Trondheim Electronic Arts
Centre's strategy for trying to develop permanent interactive
installations in the public space of the Trondheim region. The Open Wall
can therefore be considered as a fragment of a greater installation. As
this is a concept competition, we accept contributions that aren?t
limited in size to this particular physical wall as such.

Contesters will have the opportunity to start a dialog with Trondheim
Electronic Arts Centre independently of the contest result for further
development of projects.


Prizes:

The price award will take place at this year's festival for art and
technology in Trondheim, Trondheim Matchmaking, the 16th - 18th of October.

The contest is divided in two prize categories:

- The Open Wall open contest.

1st prize 2000 euros, 2nd prize 1500 euros, 3rd prize 1000 euros.

- The Open Wall Student Contest.

In addition to automatically participate in the Open Contest,
contributions from NTNU students will be separately evaluated free of
the guidelines for the open contest. Innovative technologies,
outstanding use of tech tools and playful interactions are welcomed.

Piksel08 examines the other side of code, an alternative side to a hard-coded
reality of work and play. Open hardware and free software project a utopic
vision, yet exist within economies of capital, the dream factory of
mainstream technology. Within the chance meeting of sewing machine and
umbrella on the dissecting table, hardware and software are flattened.

Piksel08: code dreams explores the dreams of this soft machine; bachelors
coding for pleasure, reverse engineering paranoiac constructs of the real,
automatic coding practice, soft hardware, and everyday magic.

Make Art is an international festival dedicated to the integration of
Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) in digital art.

The third edition of make art - OpenOS - will take place in
Poitiers (FR), from the 24th to the 30th of November 2008.

make art offers performances, presentations, workshops and an
exhibition, focused on the blurred line between art and software
programming.

We're currently seeking new, innovative FLOSS based works and
projects: music and audiovisual performances, presentations, software
demos, and installations.

This year make art focuses on the *OpenOS*: artistic, free, creative use
of the Operating System, hackability and modularity of FLOSS and
GNU/Linux, scripts as digital glue between applications, enhanced
possibilities for the technical expression of ideas, user empowerment and
artistic freedom.

make art est un festival international dédié à l'intégration des
Logiciels Libres et Open Source (FLOSS[1]) dans l'art numérique.

La troisième édition de make art – OpenOS - se déroule
à Poitiers (FR), du 24 au 30 novembre 2008.

make art propose des performances, des présentations, des
workshops et une exposition, centrés sur la rencontre entre l'art
numérique et le logiciel libre.

Nous recherchons actuellement des projets récents, innovants, basés
sur des logiciels libres et open source : performances musicales et
audio-visuelles, présentations, démonstrations de logiciels et
installations.

Cette année make art portera une attention particulière à l'OpenOS:
l'utilisation artistique, libre, créative du système d'exploitation
(OS[2]), la "hackabilité" et la modularité des Logiciels Libre et Open
Source (FLOSS) et de GNU/Linux, les scripts comme glu numérique pour
interconnecter les applications, les possibilités accrues pour

16th June 2008 is the deadline for submitting short films based on poems
for the competition of the 4th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival. From 9th to
12th October 2008 an international jury will decide the winner of the
4th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival, whose total prize money amounts to

The ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival has established itself as the largest
forum for international short films that deal with the content,
aesthetics or form of poems. It offers filmmakers from around the world

genre within the short film, a genre which has developed into an
independent art form between literature, film and new media. Various
special programmes, an international colloquium and a comprehensive
retrospective complete the 4th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival.

Pour la quatrième année consécutive, à Quiévrechain, l’Association des Activités Artistiques sans Frontière organise un concours-expo en vue de stimuler et récompenser la créativité.

Cette année le thème retenu est : L’absence.

Chaque année de nombreux artistes nous rejoignent, bien au-delà de la région. Précédemment nous avions reçu des gravures, des vidéos, des photos, des installations, des performances en sus des sculptures et peintures.

Cette année, l’éventail des techniques s’agrandit et les supports évoluent… Que de bonnes surprises ! Pour préserver l’harmonie et la qualité de l’exposition, une sélection des œuvres est réalisée à l’inscription à partir de support photographique.

Un jury de professionnels remettra un prix le vendredi 21 novembre 2008 à 19H30.

Puis les artistes honoreront l’un ou l’une d’entre eux par un « coup de chapeau » en distinguant l’une des œuvres exposées.

Enfin l’Association remettra des récompenses par groupe de techniques lors de la clôture le dimanche 30 novembre 2008 après 19H00.

L’exposition sera visible du 21 au 30 novembre 2008, dans la salle des fêtes, Place Roger Salengro, 59920 2008-.

Description du projet : Le climat comme inspiration artistique

Attention, la date limite du dépôt de candidature est fixée au vendredi 11 Juillet à 12h à la communauté de communes de l'Emblavez.


Dans le cadre de ses actions visant au développement culturel et artistique à l'échelle de son territoire, la communauté de communes de l'Emblavez (Haute Loire), souhaite mettre en place avec l'aide d'un artiste une oeuvre artistique de type station météorologique.
Cette réalisation complètera de manière ludique le circuit des paysages avec l'intégration d'une nouvelle thématique qui est celle du climat et des phénomènes météorologiques.

Ce projet vise à faire réaliser par un artiste une oeuvre artistique intégrant des outils climatiques en fonctionnement,à destination aussi bien des enfants,des adultes et des personnes à modilité réduite.

Imaginary Property

Artists, designers and theoreticians are invited to submit proposals for individual or collective research projects for a one-year, two-year or variable research period in the department of Design

The research project Imaginary Property consists of three parts that are inextricably linked up with each other and are to be addressed simultaneously rather than consecutively.

The first part is analytical in nature and traces the primarily non-juridical impact as well as the practical implications of the concept of 'imaginary property' through various disciplines such as philosophy, psychoanalysis, economics, cybernetics, architecture, new media and design theory. The analytical part will start off with a symposium (on 6th June) that shows the scope of the project and its impact on contemporary design practices. The symposium will bring about an interview and lecture series in which guest speakers partake.

The second part consists of a series of evaluations and examinations of experimental design, 'counter-design' or 're-design' projects. Specific proposals for new models of ownership based on open-source and free circulation of networked images will be developed and realized. Supposing that images are the products of struggles for imagination, this part examines in a practical way how social relationships are configured, designed and performed in connection with the images that are supposed to be owned, used and displayed as one's property. The relationship between the owner of an image and the image owned is not at issue in this project. Imaginary Property deals with the imagination and the redrawing of social relationships with people who could also use and enjoy images, modify or alter images, play images or play with images. Is it possible, practically and conceptually, to (reverse) engineer 'imaginary property'? How to show highly valuable images and visualize processes in a way that anticipates and allows for modulations, modifications and unpredictable proliferation? Can a museum redesign a show and make it or even parts of its collection freely accessible through the digital public domain? Is it possible for a political campaign to go fully 'open source'? How can such a public release be realized and what would it actually look like?

Thirdly, the results of the analytical part and the examinations will be documented more or less in real-time and made accessible on a multimedia website. The idea is further to make a publication in print as well as a collaborative, networked video project.

The research project Imaginary Property is looking for design practitioners who wish to tackle fundamental issues and query conventions of disciplines such as film, multimedia, web design, networking and architecture. It further seeks to involve theory-minded researchers who are not afraid of 'an image'.
