L’association chantier public et le festival « La poésie / nuit » ont le plaisir de vous annoncer le lancement de l’appel à candidature pour la quatrième session de résidence d’artistes à chantier public du 15 janvier au 15 avril 2008

date limite de réception des candidatures (uniquement par courrier électronique) : mercredi 5 décembre 2007

L’association chantier public invite durant un trimestre cinq artistes à travailler dans ses ateliers collectifs ouverts au public chaque premier mercredi soir du mois. Ces ouvertures peuvent prendre la forme d’une exposition mais doivent être d’abord envisagés comme une rencontre, une présentation des recherches en cours accompagnées de formes vivantes ponctuelles telles que concerts, performances, lectures, etc...

La résidence est ouverte à tout artiste plasticien (autodidacte ou ayant suivi un cursus artistique) mais aussi à toute personne désireuse de confronter son activité d’auteur (écriture, recherche scientifique, cuisine, jardinage, ...) au sein d’une expérience collective. Il n’y a pas de limite d’âge ou d’origine géographique. La pratique du français et/ou de l’anglais est souhaitée.

Trois chambres sont mises gracieusement à la disposition des résidents. (Deux des cinq résidents sélectionnés devront soit résider dans le Grand Lyon soit se loger de manière autonome durant toute la durée de la résidence)

La résidence numéro 4 sera fortement teintée de la relation entre écriture et arts visuels. Suivant le calendrier d’ouverture au public, le premier mercredi du mois de mars 2008 constituera la soirée inaugurale de la cinquième édition du festival « La poésie / nuit » où les résidents interviendront en parallèle aux réalisations d’artistes invités par le festival. Ainsi, une prise en compte du thème du festival 2008, «décoloniser le monde», serait appréciée mais n’est pas obligatoire.

De plus, les résidents pourront, en fonction de leur projet, participer à la revue Laps, qui proposera à cette occasion un hors-série consacré à cette exposition de mars.

chantier public est accueilli dans le cadre de la démarche inter-associative de Grnd Zero. La surface du batiment (2000m²) est partagée entre une dizaine d’associations (promoteurs et labels de musique, studios son et vidéo, théâtre, poésie, performance) avec lesquelles les résidents pourront dialoguer et trouver un support à leurs projets.

Le projet est auto-financé (c’est-à-dire sans recours aux subventions, et par extension, sans bourse de résidence). Les conditions sont restreintes : elles demandent de l’investissement, de la rigueur et l’adhésion au projet de la part des résidents.

• les résidents s’engagent à assurer une présence optimale sur les lieux de la résidence.
• connaissance des règles élémentaires de savoir-vivre en collectif
• autonomie relative dans le travail, la recherche de moyens de production et la monstration, « relative » dans la mesure où chantier public se tient à disposition pour fournir toute aide motivée par le résident et rentrer en contatc avec institutions et entreprises partenaires.

chantier public and the festival « La poésie / nuit » are pleased to announce the call for application of chantier public fourth residency from the 15th january to 15th april 2008.
Applications to be received by email by Wednesday the 5th of December 2007

Every three months, chantier public invites 5 residents to work in collective studios opened to the public the first Wednesday evening of every month. These moments can take the form of an exhibition but they are first and foremost to consider as a meeting and a presentation of the ongoing works accompanied with live performances such as gigs, performances, readings...
The residency is opened to any visual artists (self-taught artist or former art school student) but also to anyone keen to face his creative practice (writing, scientific research, cooking, gardening,...) to visual arts within a collective experience. There is no age or geographical limit. French and/or English speaking welcome.

The residents kindly profit from three privates spaces. (that means two of the five selected residents will come from Lyon or its
surrounding area)
+ exhibition space: 200m2
+ 4 studios of production studios
+ collective kitchen, laundry and showers
+ equipment, tools and painting storeroom
+ bedrooms with wireless internet (wifi)

Residency #4 will be strongly connected to the link between writing and visual arts. In accordance with our calendar, the first wednesday of March 2008 will be the opening night of the 5th edition of the festival «La poésie nuit», in which the residents will show their works jointly with the artists invited by the festival. Therefore, we would appreciate that you keep in mind the 2008 festival theme «decolonise the world» but it is not an obligation.

Moreover, according to their projects, the residents shall participate to Laps magazine, which will publish a special review focusing on the festival and the exhibition.

chantier public’s organisation and spaces are part of Grnd Zero, an inter-associative project. The building area (2000m2) is shared between rallying promoters and music editors, sound and video studios, theatre, poetry and performances with whom the residents may talk to and find support for their projects.

chantier public is a self-funded project (which means no institutional grants and, by extension, no residency grant).
Conditions are limited ; the residents are required to be fully committed, rigorous and involved in the project.

Admission
- the residents commit themselves to ensure an optimum presence at chantier public
- knowledge of the elementary rules of collective living essential (residency and/or squat experience welcome)
- relative self-sufficiency when working, when looking for means of production and exhibition (this is « relative » insofar as
chantier public is keen to give any help justified by the resident and to get in touch with institutional and business partners)
