DEADLINE 2 FEB 2007
Working in Public: Art, Practice and Policy
http://www.workinginpublicseminars.org/
Organized by: On The Edge Research and Scottish Arts Council
The On the Edge (OTE) research programme at Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University and the Scottish Arts Council are planning a seminar program called Working in Public: Art, Practice and Policy.
The goal of the seminar programme is to develop a new level of thinking in relation to the aesthetics and ethics of art practices that work within the social and cultural spheres of public life. The seminar programme is developed with Suzanne Lacy, an internationally renowned artist in the field of social practice. Suzanne is currently Associate Professor at Gray’s School of Art, funded by the Henry Moore Foundation and the Robert Gordon University. The intention of this programme is to raise key issues and challenges in this field of practice and offer critical insight into Suzanne's decision making processes. We aim to run the 2007 programme as a pilot for longer term development of research, critical thinking and learning in the visual arts as they relate to the public sphere.
There will be four components to the programme - three seminar events, involving international guest speakers including Grant Kester, Tom Trevor and Simon Sheikh (March - June 2007) and a one day public conference (Sept 2007).
